Fordham Balance Attack Too Much For Yale

Can’t say the Fordham Rams like to keep things predictable. After junior running back Chase Edmonds’ historic game against Lafayette last week, Fordham Football decided to go to the air and senior quarterback Kevin Anderson lead the Rams to a 44-37 win against Yale on Saturday. With the win, Fordham improves to 4-2.

Kevin Anderson went 18-of-27 for 270 yards and five touchdowns.  Anderson had scoring strikes of 15 yards to Robbie Cantelli and 55 yards to Corey Caddle in the first quarter for a 14-8. After Yale went ahead 15-14, Anderson found Austin Longi for a 15-yard TD and Caddle scored from 19 yards out with 52 seconds left in the half.

It’s the third time Anderson threw five touchdown passes in a game, matching the total from 2015 games with Columbia and Monmouth.

Fordham was in control for most of it as they led 27-15 at halftime and 41-23 after three quarters.

Makay Redd kicked a 20-yard field goal to give Fordham a 44-30 lead with 2:06 remaining. Yale answered with an 8-play, 65-yard drive, capped by Dale Harris’ 3-yard rushing touchdown with 21 seconds left, but the Bulldogs’ onside kick didn’t go the necessary 10 yards.

Chase Edmonds Continues Historic Pace

Chase Edmonds had a quiet 121 yards on 18 carries. With another 100 yard rushing performance, Edmonds reaches the 1,000 yard mark. With only six games down, he is the fastest Fordham rusher to reach that milestone. This also marks the 3rd straight season Chase Edmonds has reach the 1,000 yard mark.

Got to Clean Up The Penalties

The Rams got away with a win after committing their most penalties of the season, 12 for 112 yards. The Rams entered the game ranked fifth-best in the FCS in yards given up to penalties. The Rams defense did show up in key spots, mostly in the first half. After holding Yale to just 122 yards of offense in the first half, the Rams gave up 331 in the second.

What really kept the game close was Yale converting 11-19 third downs.  The balance attack by Fordham is what bailed out the defense.

The Rams next game will be at home against the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday afternoon.
