GoFundMe account created to help the family of Patrick Day

Following the tragic death of Long Island’s Patrick Day, the entire combat sports community send out their support. Now, there are more ways to support the memory and Day and his family, as a GoFundMe account has been created.

Day died on October 16 following a bout against Charles Conwell. He was hit hard in the fourth and eighth round until the fight was stopped in the tenth. Emergency responders immediately went to support Day after he fell to the mat. In a coma the next few days, the 27-year-old never recovered.

During his short life, boxing allowed Patrick to impact many communities, both big and small. In his hometown of Freeport, Long Island, he was a beacon of light and the star pupil at the Freeport PAL, the gym he trained in from the moment he began boxing until the last bout of his career,” Lou DiBella stated in a press release“He was recognized as one of Long Island’s finest professional fighters for years. He was a fixture in the boxing community throughout New York City.

The GoFundMe was created by Day’s brother and friend to help out his mother with the accumulated expenses following Patrick’s time in the hospital. The set goal is $1,000,000 and as of this moment over $33,000 has been raised.
