Boxing Matchroom Boxing signs boxing royalty in Cecelia Braekhus by Daniel Yanofsky October 22, 2019 Since its debut in the United States last September, DAZN’s goal has been to elevate all of its coverage. That includes Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. The promotor has held his end of the bargain by signing some of the top fighters in the world today. The evil genius may have outdone himself, as a deal is in place for Matchroom to partner up with one of the top female boxers in the world today. Cecelia Braekhus, the Undisputed Women’s Welterweight Champion, has been signed to a multi-fight deal. “I’m delighted to welcome Cecilia to the team and I’m very excited for the future,” Eddie Hearn stated in a press release. “Cecilia has been a pioneer of women’s boxing and is established as one of the biggest stars in the sport. Right now women’s boxing is stronger than ever and there are some huge fights and events to be made over the next few years that I fully expect Cecilia to be a major part of.” This is one of the most significant signings in boxing history. Braekhus (35-0) is a multi-time champion and is one of seven boxers to hold titles of the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO simultaneously.”The Iron Lady” is a European Champion and had over 75 wins in the amateurs before dismantling boxing’s female division as a pro. Honoured to join forces with @matchroomboxing !!🔥🔥🔥 Fight announcement coming soon👊💥💥 @dazn_usa @eddiehearn @TomLoeffler1 https://t.co/9FpAMNNajO— Cecilia Brækhus (@1LadyCecilia) October 22, 2019 “I’m very proud to announce that I am joining forces with Matchroom Boxing for the next chapter of my journey,” Braekhus stated. “As always I’ll be looking for the biggest fights and the toughest challenges in the ring. Thanks very much to my fans all over the world who have supported me for so many years, I’m excited to return to the ring soon. Thanks also to my team who have worked diligently to make this happen.” Braekhus’ goal of bigger and better fights may actually come to fruition. Matchroom and DAZN currently have a working agreement with Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. These two ladies and Braekhus are considered the gold standard of women’s boxing. A clash with either one of them (even with rumors of Taylor and Serrano facing off at some point) would result in a big profit for Matchroom. Another name that could be in the mix to face Braekhus is Claressa Shields. While not exclusive to DAZN, Shields has been rumored for years to be on Braekhus’ radar. Whether these fights actually happen is up in the air. The fact one of the hottest free agents in the industry has chosen a side makes things extremely interesting. Considered boxing royalty, the Queen is determined to secure her throne, no matter the opponent.
