Football Jamal Adams Challenges Front Office to Get Better Players by Luke Porco January 3, 2019 After Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots, which concluded the season for the New York Jets, safety Jamal Adams was outspoken about the future of the team, saying, “We need more players, and we need more dogs.” Adams’ message was received by general manager Mike Maccagnan, who said that he will use Adams to help recruit free agents this offseason. No matter how Adams’ comment was perceived, all is all, he is right. The Jets clearly need more talented players in order to contend for the future. While they do have a good core of developing players on the rise, such as Adams, and Sam Darnold, to name a few, that is currently not enough to make the Jets a contender, as we have seen this season. Despite their 4-12 record this past season, the Jets can still continue building a potential Super Bowl contender, by adding players that are not only talented, but are a good fit for the team. For example, once they hire a head coach, they should add the most talented players that fit the system and also are team players. A rumored target for the Jets in the offseason is disgruntled Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. Brown had missed the Steelers’ Week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, due to what was believed to be a knee injury. However, this past week, there have been reports that Brown is unhappy in Pittsburgh and supposedly was benched after skipping practices due to his frustrations with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. There was a report that Brown demanded a trade, however that has been denied by Tomlin. Amidst all the chaos in Pittsburgh with Brown, Jamal Adams got involved in the rumors by tweeting to Brown, “Yo @AB84 NYC will appreciate you!! #JETS.” While Brown has proven to be arguably the best wide receiver in football right now, and a receiver of his caliber would definitely boost Darnold’s progression, the downside is that the baggage he may bring with him could be a detriment to the Jets. If the Jets bring in the right head coach to keep Brown in line, and he puts up stats similar to what he did in Pittsburgh, then this could work for the Jets. Bottom line is the Jets need to get a top wide receiver for Darnold to throw to, as well as some offensive line and another top player on defense, and if those players can mesh with the young core that the Jets are developing, then the Jets will be on the right track.
