The March Madness Tournament always provides a month’s worth of exciting action. So much so, that it even surpasses the excitement of an NBA game. It’s rare that the National Championship Game comes down to the final buzzer. This year was different, however.

The 2016 National Championship game between North Carolina and Villanova will go down as one of the greatest college basketball games of all time. With Villanova leading 74-71 in the dying seconds of the game, North Carolina point guard launched a three point shot to tie the game at 74. With six seconds left on the clock, the game looked destined to head into overtime, but Villanova had other plans.

After calling a timeout, Villanova junior forward Kris Jenkins inbounded the ball to senior point guard Ryan Arcidiacono. With a timely set pick by senior forward Daniel Ochefu, Arcidiacono threw an underhanded pass to Jenkins behind the arc, where Jenkins made history. With one second remaining on the clock, time stood still as Jenkins shot the three pointer and watched the ball enter the basket with a clean swish, giving the Villanova Wildcats a 77-74 victory.

Pandemonium ensued at NRG Stadium in Houston as the Villanova Wildcats players rushed onto the court in celebration and fans in attendance and around the world jumping up and down. Even North Carolina alum Michael Jordan, who was in attendance for the game, smiled and nodded, where you can see him say, “Good shot, good shot.” This was Villanova’s first Men’s Basketball Championship since 1985.  It truly was a great moment in not only college basketball, but also all of sports this year. That is why it was voted as the Double G Sports 2016 Moment of the Year.
