MMA Lawler out of Cerrone fight; Possible Diaz Brother to the Rescue? by Kristine Haugsjaa September 10, 2016 Photo Credit: fightstate.com Well, this sucks. Ish. A week after the official bout was confirmed by the UFC, the anticipated war between welterweights Donald Cerrone and former champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden on Nov 12th has been called off. Fight fans cried harder than Jon Jones at his PED presser when TMZ reported the news late Friday night. While details are still emerging, sources are stating that the reason for Lawler’s withdrawal is “an undisclosed injury.” The UFC is actively looking for an new opponent for Cerrone, who will remain on UFC 205. But who do you call to fight the guy that is usually the go-to call in situations like this? Although no official offer has been made according to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, multiple MMA news outlets are reporting UFC Welterweight Nick Diaz as a possible opponent. While the sting of it no longer being Lawler is still fresh, announcing the older Diaz brother as his replacement would repair our broken hearts to say the least. Fight fans have been anxiously awaiting for the Stockton native to get back in the octagon since coming off his 18-month suspension in August and let me just say, what a return this would be.
