This weekend consists of a big trip for the New York Red Bulls as they travel out to the Northwest to take on the Seattle Sounders. This is a major matchup featuring the last two winners of the MLS’ Supporters Shield (given out annually to the team with the best record in the league) and two current top tier MLS sides – the Red Bulls team is in third overall in the East and Seattle is first overall in the MLS.

Seattle is currently riding a three game unbeaten streak (two wins and one draw) in which they haven’t given up a goal. The last time the Sounders conceded was May 9 against Columbus, a 3-2 loss. On the other hand, the Red Bulls have just one win in their last five and need to right the ship on Sunday. The last time the Red Bulls scored was on May 10 in a 2-1 win over rivals NYCFC.

For the Red Bulls to be successful and get back to their winning ways, they need to find what was working for them earlier in the year. They need to hold onto the ball, make their possessions count with plenty of shots and good opportunities, and they need strong linkup play from midfield to their forwards. The more Bradley Wright-Phillips the better for the Red Bulls; they need to come out of the gate hot as they are 4-0-0 when scoring first this season.

The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN 2 starting at 5:00 PM.
