Soccer Jersey Express S.C.’s Open Cup Run Ends in Queens, NY in loss to Cosmos by Jayson Love May 28, 2015 from: newyorkcosmos.com Jersey Express S.C. was always going to be up against it facing the top team in the NASL on the road. They hoped they could keep it close and strike late as they did against New York Red Bulls 2 last week, but the plan went awry when New York Cosmos struck in the 14th minute. After the Cosmos won a free kick just outside the box, Leonardo Fernandez curled a beautiful effort past Matthew Turner and the Express found themselves down a goal early for the first time this season. The Cosmos struck again in the 40th minute when Sebastián Ignacio Guenzatti Varela took advantage of hesitant defending in the box and dribbled up to Turner’s goal. He fired home coolly to give the Cosmos control of the game. The Cosmos would ice it with a third goal from the penalty spot and downed the Express 3-0 to knock Jersey out of the Open Cup. The game was marred by a pair of red cards that left each side with 10 men at its conclusion. The Express will now look forward to the regular season.
