Soccer Red Bulls Trade Lloyd Sam to D.C. United by Staff Post July 7, 2016 Lloyd Sam (Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports) The New York Red Bulls have traded Lloyd Sam to rivals D.C. United. It is a sad day for both Sam (he tweeted “I’m in tears right now” after the trade was announced) and for the club who moved him after four years in New York. In return for Sam the Red Bulls received general allocation money which they can use for a player in the future. Sam, who has been electric for Red Bulls offensively – scoring 20 goals and assisting a further 22 goals – will try to provide that extra spark to a goal barren D.C. United squad. They have 17 goals in 17 matches so far this season. It’s a tough day for Red Bulls supporters and teammates alike but ultimately they can use the returns on this trade to improve down.
