Rutgers redshirt freshman cornerback Darian Dailey, along with another man, Trazelle Johnson, 19, were arrested early Sunday morning in Florida. Both parties are charged and accused of robbery using a firearm. They are being booked at the Manatee County Jail on the felony robbery charge.

According to MyFoxTampaBay.com and other Florida media outlets, the suspects are accused for robbing a man on a bicycle around 2 a.m. early Sunday morning while displaying a handgun. The victim was not injured and handed over money according to the reports.

“Both men are being held on $150,000 bond,” according to Dan Duggan of NJ Advance Media. “If Dailey was in possession of the firearm during the alleged robbery, he could face a minimum 10-year prison term, according to Florida sentencing statutes.”

Head coach Kyle Flood gave a statement regarding the situation saying, “We are aware of the situation and are gathering facts. Once those facts are gathered, we will take the appropriate action.”

The 5-11, 175-pound Bradenton, Fla. native played at Manatee High School before redshirting last season. Dailey impressed during spring practice, and was in line to earn playing time this season. Depending on how the conundrum shakes out, sophomore Dre Boggs could be the other starting cornerback opposite junior Nadir Barnwell with redshirt freshman Isaiah Wharton and freshman Blessuan Austin earning playing time.

The players are responsible to report back to campus this week for their summer conditioning program that begins on Tuesday – another preparation for the team’s second season in the Big Ten.

Double G Sports will update you further once details are learned.
