St. John’s Women’s Soccer Sweeps Big East Preseason Awards

Expectations are high in Queens, New York for the St. John’s University Women’s Soccer program. The team is coming off their most successful Big East campaign in program history and are looking to build on that success.

The conference announced it’s women’s soccer preseason honors today and St. John’s find themselves tied for the first place vote in the coaches poll with DePaul. Each program received 73 points in voting and four first place votes each.

Not only did the team receive top honors, they also swept the individual awards.

Rachel Daly was named Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year, alongside Catherine Zimmerman of Providence. Daly was an All-Big East selection last season after leading the Red Storm with eight goals and 18 points. She has a chance to etch her name in the St. John’s record books this season as the career records for goals, points, and shots are all within reach.

Georgia Kearney-Perry has been named the Big East Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Kearney-Perry was the 2014 Big East Defensive Player of the Year after leading a stellar defensive unit.

Diana Poulin was named the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.

Daly and Kearney-Perry were unanimous selections to the Preseason All-Big East Team.

The Red Storm begins its 2015 season on Friday, August 21, on the road at Stony Brook.
