College Stony Brook WBB Ride First Half Shooting to Win Over Hofstra Seawolves shot 65 percent from the field in the first half. by Gregg Snyder November 14, 2017 The Stony Brook Seawolves used two first half runs to defeat the Hostra Pride, 73-49, Tuesday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. It was the first road win of the season for Stony Brook, who improved to 2-0 on the season. Hofstra dropped to 1-1. The Seawolves held Hofstra to just 32 percent shooting and forced the Pride into 17 turnovers. Meanwhile, Stony Brook shot 50 percent, including a red-hot 65 percent in the first half. They were led by junior Jerell Matthews who scored 21 points, a game high. Classmate, Shania Johnson added 13 points for the Seawolves. After the hot start, Stony Brook led 44-19 at halftime. Hofstra never pulled closer than 20 in the second half. Senior Ashunae Durant led the Pride with 13 points, seven rebounds, and a career-high six blocks. Senior Aleana Leon and sophomore Sandra Karsten each added 10 for Hofstra.
