Soccer Rais MBolhi Done at Philadelphia Union by Jayson Love May 16, 2015 Rais Mbolhi (USA Today Images)Surpringly, Mbolhi was passed over in favor of a fourth choice Keeper at Vancouver Less than a week after it appeared that the Algerian international would get his shot in the Philadelphia Union nets, the keeper finds himself essentially off the team. Surprisingly, after two injuries in practice, the Union added former Harrisburg Islanders’ keeper Alex Sylvestre on short term loan and immediately started him instead of the more experienced Mbholhi in what became a blowout loss to the Whitecaps. The writing appeared to be on the wall and just hours before the game, Mbolhi headed back to Philadelphia. Jim Curtin seemed to indicate at his press conference that he was not intending to play Mbolhi and that he “wasn’t called back” into training. Mbolhi’s agent seemed to think that he was going to play. Curtin then went on to state that Mboli would be transferred in the summer window which will be when he has his least value.
