No. 18 Auburn dominates Richmond to win Legends Classic at Barclays Center

The Auburn Tigers came in to the Romans Legends Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY ranked No 18 in the country with a 6-0 record. The Tigers have won 20 regular season tournaments in program history, but have only won two titles since 2-0. The Tigers leaned heavily on their oldest roster members as the team is composed of five seniors, five freshmen and one sophomore.

The first half was a back and forth affair as neither team was able to get a real cushion. Richmond’s Jacob Gilyard was able to hit a buzzer beating floater to give his team a 35-34 advantage heading into the locker room for half-time.

Trailing 35-34 at the half, The Tigers came out with a new energy going on a 11-4 run in 4:27. The lead then expanded to 53- 41. Auburn never looked back and expanded their lead to as much as 22 in the second half.

Guard Samir Doughty lead the way for the tigers amassing 22 points on 7-16 shooting. Tournament MVP Austin Wiley also had a standout game with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Doughty and Wiley made the all tournament team along with Nathan Reuvers (Wisconsin), Jacob Gilyard (Richmond), and Grant Golden (Richmond).

Auburn is only allowing 66.7 points per game, suffocating opposing offenses. This years Tigers is one of the best under coach Bruce Pearl and they look to continue their impressive defense and try to repeat the success of last years final four team.
