Gerry Cardinale is RedBird Capital’s founder and managing partner. Johnson’s former boss, WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon founded the football league. It was confirmed by ESPN that the sale of the XFL to Johnson, Garcia and RedBird Capital was officially approved August 7 in a Delaware bankruptcy court. XFL ownership was sold to all three parties for a total of $15 million. Johnson and Garcia will have a “hands-on approach” in overseeing the XFL, with alleged plans to relaunch the football league in 2021.
