MMA Christy Mack’s Story Will Have You in Tears The hearing for the domestic abuse is set for April 22nd, and the trial is set for September. by Stephen Ur April 20, 2015 (Credit: Michael Dorausch via Flickr Creative Commons 2.0/Wikimedia Commons) Christine Mackinday, also known as Christy Mack, had been dating UFC fighter Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver after she took care of him while he recovered from pneumonia in Spring 2013. “I fell in love really quick,” Mack told ESPNW. Things seemed to be perfect for the first four months. That’s when things became bad. Koppenhaver began abusing her, physically and mentally. According to Mack, however, she just brushed it off because she was just so in love with him. As time went on, however, he became more abusive. Things hit the fan on August 8th, 2014. Mack was sleeping with a friend of her’s, Corey Thomas, when Koppenhaver, who allegedly used an old key to get in, barged into the bedroom and began beating on Thomas. Thomas claimed that Koppenhaver punched him repeatedly, and eventually put him in a chokehold. Once he was done with Thomas, who Koppenhaver told to leave and not tell the police, he turned his attention to his ex-girlfriend. He began to punch her, and did so until she fell unconscious. Mack testified that he had taken her to the bathroom, then snared gruesome words in her ear before attempting to rape her. He also threatened her with a knife. She also testified that she wound up naked and in the shower, but did not remember how her clothes were removed. Mack made a run for it when Koppenhaver left the bathroom, and went into the kitchen for what Mack thinks was another knife. She ran out of the house, naked, over the fence and begged the neighbor to let her in. They did not let her in, but they did allow her to hide behind a wall while they called 911. Koppenhaver was gone when police arrived. Mack’s injuries were more severe than she had thought. She was unable to walk for a week. She also suffered eighteen broken bones, a broken nose, a fractured rib, a ruptured liver, which doctors say was so bad, they didn’t want to operate on her face because she wouldn’t want to deal with the anesthesia. A manhunt was now in session to find Koppenhaver. He tweeted during it, as well, saying that he was trying to surprise his girlfriend by proposing and then wound up “fighting for my life”, according to the ESPNW report. As for Kappenhaver, who was eventually found and arrested, he is now on suicide watch after being found unresponsive in his prison cell with a cloth noose around his neck with what appeared to be a suicide note. The hearing for the domestic abuse is set for April 22nd, and the trial is set for September. When the news and pictures of the abuse case went viral, many took to Twitter, saying she deserved what she got. She did not deserve that. She is a kind person to everyone and anyone, and she deserves the same respect that she gives.
