College Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens Fight Off Richmond Spiders 42-35 in Double Overtime by Stephen Ur October 21, 2017 The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens hosted the Richmond Spiders at Delaware Stadium in Wilmington, DE on Saturday afternoon. Both teams came into the game at 4-2 and were looking for their fifth win of the season. Delaware got on the board first when Deonte Cherry took a short pass from quarterback JP Caruso and ran into the end zone from 13 yards out. Richmond tied the game when quarterback Kyle Lauletta found Tyler Wilkins on a seven-yard connection. Running back Jamie Jarmon ran a jet sweep and scored a 74-yard touchdown. Delaware held a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lauletta would connect with tight end Garrett Hudson on a 20 yard score to tie the game at 14. Most of the second quarter belonged to the Delaware defense. Nasir Adderly picked off his second pass of the game and the Fightin’ Blue Hens stopped Richmond short on a 3rd and 1. Unfortunately, their offense couldn’t capitalize. Finally, late in the second, Caruso and Jarmon hooked up for a 19-yard touchdown to give Delaware the lead back at 21-14. That would prove to be the score at the end of the first half. Richmond got off to a hot start in the second half. They tied the game when Lauletta and Wilkins hooked up for a second time. Following Daniel Jones’ fourth interception of the season, they took the lead when Lauletta ran it in himself from 11 yards out. They would take their 28-21 lead into the fourth quarter. Delaware tied the game when Jarmon ran in from five yards out. That was his third score of the game. It was also the final score of regulation. Delaware and Richmond went into OT tied at 28. Richmond scored first when Lauletta threw a 25 yard pass into the end zone which landed in the hands of Dejon Brissett. Delaware responded with a touchdown of their own to send the game into double overtime. Delaware scored when Kenneth Kiptoo rushed for a two-yard score. The Fightin’ Blue Hens defense held the Spiders out of the end zone and secured a 42-35 win on homecoming weekend. Delaware will travel to take on Towson next week. That game is set to kick off at 4 p.m. ET. It is also the first of three road games in the final four for the Fightin’ Blue Hens.
