Hofstra Women lose heartbreaker after furious comeback

The Hofstra Pride women basketball team were able to erase a terrible third quarter to pull within two, but were ultimately unable to go ahead and lost to a talented Columbia team.

The Pride were led by Sica Cuzic, who had her first career double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Hofstra’s downfall was their inability to score in the third quarter, scoring only eight points on 20 shots and letting Columbia stretch a 36-32 halftime lead into an eight point lead to start the fourth.

Back-to-back-to-back threes from Cuzic, Petja Krupenko and Boggie Brozoski gave Hofstra their first lead of the game since the first half, but Columbia came storming back and used an 8-3 run to finish the game off.  It was a disappointing end to an entertaining game, but the Pride have a lot to look forward to.

They next face Stony Brook on Tuesday, and will travel across Long Island to face the Seawolves.
