Golf Lydia Ko: World’s #1 Golf Player Ten years ago, no one thought of a woman being the number one golf player in the world. Today, Lydia Ko is the number one golf player in the world- at just 17 years old. Born in Korea, Ko began to play golf when she was just five years old and has been coached by the same person, Guy Wilson, ever since she began playing golf. She practices golf 35 hours a week. Ko first got her name out there when she won the 2012 US Women’s Amateur. Since then, she has played alongside the biggest names in golf, such as Tiger Woods, Rory Mcllory and Phil Mickelson. Her latest accomplishment was winning the Women’s Australian Open, her sixth career LPGA title. She has also won the 2014 Rookie of the Year. Such accomplishments for such a young lady is definitely incredible. She still has a long life to live, so we can expect her to accomplish a lot more. Her next event is JLPGA World Ladies’ Championship in Ibaraki, Japan from May 9th- May 12th. Ko is quoted for enjoying golf and enjoying watch her (golf) idol, Michelle Wie, play, as well. “I really enjoy watching Michelle Wie playing golf and earning lots and lots of money,” Ko said on her website. She also stays positive, no matter what. “I am capable of doing anything I possibly can reach to,” she said. Positivity is always key, no matter what it is you’re doing, even in golf. Positivity, as well as hard work for many, many years, has earned Lydia Ko the title of the #1 golfer in the world.
