College Princeton Pounds Cornel Big Red, Improves to 5-2 by Stephen Ur November 1, 2015 from nj.com Princeton hosted the Cornell Big Red on Halloween. Cornell was winless coming into this game at an 0-6 record (0-3 conference), so the Tigers were surely in for a treat. They got a lucky break early when Cornell missed a 38-yard field goal, and Princeton took over on their own 21 yard line. Their offense, on the other hand, couldn’t get anything going and were forced to punt the ball away. The Big Red missed another field goal, this one from 26 yards out, and Princeton once again took over in their own territory. Princeton’s defense intercepted a Cornell pass and took over at their own 35 yard line. They got all the way down to the Cornell 19 yard line, and the first quarter ended in a scoreless tie. 59 seconds into the second quarter, the Tigers scored first with a touchdown pass to tight end Scott Carpenter to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. On their next drive, the Tigers scored again when John Lovett ran into the end zone which made the score 14-0 with Princeton on top. Cornell scored right before the half to make it a 14-7 game, but Princeton added a 32-yard field goal and took a 17-7 lead into the locker room. Princeton started with the ball in the second half at their own 35. They drove down the field in just under two minutes, and a Dre Nelson touchdown made it 24-7 Princeton. The two teams exchanged touchdowns, and Princeton led 34-14 at the end of the third quarter. Dre Nelson returned a kickoff following a Cornell 1-yard touchdown 105 yards to the other endzone to make the score 47-21. The Tigers took a comfortable 47-21 lead on a rushing touchdown from Joey Rhattigan with just under 10 minutes left in the game. That would wind up being the final score, as Princeton improved to 5-2 on the season. They will travel to take on Penn next Saturday at noon.
