Red Bulls pick up much needed victory over Atlanta United

New York Red Bulls VS Atlanta United

New York Red Bulls 1, Atlanta United 0

2019 MLS Regular-Season Match 12

Sunday, May 19, 2019 – 5 p.m. ET

Red Bull Arena | Harrison, N.J.

Atlanta United played a man up, but due to the heroics of newly signed Tom Barlow the Red Bulls were able to escape with 3 points. With Sunday’s victory New York snapped Atlanta’s scoreless streak of 521 minutes and five-straight clean sheets.

The game took a major turn in the 35th minute as Tim Parker was awarded a red card for grabbing Josef Martinez in the penalty area. There were many arguments of whether a red card was warranted, but after video review referee Robert Sibiga decided Martinez was indeed denied a goal scoring opportunity.

The scoring opened up in the 65th minute as Daniel Royer sent in a perfectly weighted ball for Barlow to score his first ever MLS goal.

Sunday’s game was huge for goalkeeper Luis Robles as he moved into sole possession of eighth all time in career clean sheets.

The Red Bulls have now won four out of their last five matches placing them in 6th place in a very tight eastern conference.

The Red Bulls look to carry their momentum into their Wednesday night showdown against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Red Bull Arena.

Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET with coverage on MSG+, TSN and New York Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.
