Tylin Oden (Rutgers Athletics) Tylin Oden was supposed to be a contender for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights starting quarterback job during spring practice. The rising sophomore has been dismissed from the program due to a “violation of team rules”, according to a Rutgers press release. “We wish nothing but the best in his future decisions,” Rutgers head coach Chris Ash said in a statement, yesterday. Oden, a three-star recruit from Tennessee, was a member of coach Ash’s first recruiting class, last year. He had a solid ground game, but his passing ability was mediocre. As a freshman, Oden appeared in six games last season. He rushed for 144 yards on 37 carries. His passing could have used some improvement; he completed only one of eight pass attempts for two yards. Oden was expected to compete against returning starter Gio Rescigno and TCU graduate transfer Zach Allen. Although Rescigno is regarded as the favorite, Oden would have received some playing time during the upcoming season. The Scarlet Knights will host “Spring Fever”, an event featuring the annual Scarlet and White spring game, on Saturday, April 22, at High Point Solutions Stadium. Rescigno and Allen will see more reps, however the teams have not yet been announced.
