Seton Hall Assistant Shaheen Holloway Hired as Head Coach at Saint Peter’s

Saint Peter’s University Director of Athletics Bryan Felt has hired Shaheen Holloway to be the 15th head coach of the men’s basketball program. The hiring was announced Wednesday in a statement by released by the school.

Holloway brings a wealth of NY/NJ ties with him to the Jersey City school. He is a Queens, NY native that played his high school ball at St. Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth, NJ.

After high school, Holloway starred at Seton Hall University. He is the Pirates all-time assist leader with 681,  while also sitting 17th in scoring with 1,588 points, fourth in steals with 231 steals, and eighth with 185 three-pointers. Holloway was inducted into the Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.

After professional stints in the ABA and USBL, as well as overseas, Holloway turned his basketball focus to the coaching ranks.

For the past eight seasons, Holloway has been the associate head coach at Seton Hall, his alma mater, under Kevin Willard. He began his collegiate coaching at SHU under Bobby Gonzalez, as an administrative assistant. He then moved on to be an assistant under Willard at Iona.

The hiring seems to fit perfectly when you look at Holloway’s experience and connection to the tri-state area basketball scene.

The Peacocks finished the 2018-18 season with a 14-18 (6-12, MAAC) overall record. Saint Peter’s losses just two from last years roster, one being leading scorer Nick Griffin. The Peacocks finished the regular season in ninth place before making a postseason run before falling in the MAAC Conference Tournament Semi-finals.
