College Seton Hall’s Cullen Dana Named Big East Pitcher of the Week by Staff Post March 30, 2016 Seton Hall’s Cullen Dana pitched lights out in game one of a doubleheader this past Saturday at Army. The stellar performance landed the freshman pitcher his first Big East Pitcher of the Week award. In seven innings of no-hit ball, Dana struck out a career-high nine and walked a mere two batters helping lead the Pirates to an 11-0 victory over the Black Knights. Dana became the third Pirates pitcher to bring home the award already this season and the fourth time the staff has received the award as both Zach Prendergast (2/22) and Shane McCarthy (3/7, 3/21) have already claimed the award as well. Sophomore Shane McCarthy continues to build on a very impress freshman campaign and has come into this season guns blazing looking for more. Cullen is following the lead and has already set himself up for a very impressive first season in a Pirates uniform. Derek Jenkins was also included on this week’s honor roll after batting a team-high .444 to go along with 6 RBI’s and ten stolen bases. Jenkins swiped six bags setting a Seton Hall record on Wednesday against Saint Peters. Creighton’s Ryan Fitzgerald received the Big East player of the week nod. The Honor roll was rounded out by Creighton’s Jeff Albrecht, Xavier’s Joe Gellenbeck and both Troy Dixon and Joe Nellis of St. John’s. With Big East conference play set to begin in a little over a week it appears as though Seton Hall will have a steady diet of big outings from their pitchers this season. If these first six weeks were any indication Seton Hall will surely be satisfied with the performances their pitching staff provides.
