Women's Sports St. Peter’s Women’s Volleyball Falls to Siena by Adrienne J. Romero October 12, 2017 The Saint Peter’s Peahens were edged by the Siena Saints 3-2 (26-24, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18, 15-11) on Sunday afternoon at home in The Yanitelli Center. The Peahens are now 0-19 overall; 0-9 home, 0-6 away, 0-4 neutral. Junior Kali Viles carried the team with 16 kills while Kenyale McGinnis ranked right behind her with 10. Junior Alexus Sharp and sophomore Danielle Lopez recorded eight kills, freshman Natalia Carbonell Torres with six. Sophomore Carolina Ruiz led the Peahens with 30 assists and freshman Imani Spicer racked up 14 assists. Saints Antonija Ivanovic led the Saints with 21 kills and 12 digs while Dakota Jackson trailed behind with 15 kills and Karli Rodriguez with 10. Jessica Elbin marked 53 assists. The Peahens had the early lead in four out of five of the sets. In the first, Saint Peter’s set the tone with a 10-9 lead and kept their heads over them 18-19 later into the set. The Peahens won the set 26-24 after a back-to-back point match. They continued with a strong start with an 8-5 advantage in the second. Sharp, Viles and McGinnis had a kill that helped them keep the score up 13-8. The Peahens held the Saints down until the end of the set as they won 25-15. Saint Peter’s slowed down in the last three sets. Viles helped cut the deficit to two points with a kill, but Siena continued extending their lead, winning the set 25-22. A constant battle of two points and one point went off in the fourth set; trailing late in the set 20-21, the Peahens were only able to score two more points before falling 25-18. They trailed 7-5 in the beginning of the last set. McGinnis added another kill in the set, but the Saints’ still had a four point advantage, winning the set 15-11. The Peahens will travel to Riverdale, NY on Saturday, Oct. 14 to face Manhattan College, seeking their first victory.
