UConn Football Star Eli Thomas suffers stroke

It was a scary scene at the Storrs campus last Wednesday afternoon, as it was announced that UConn linebacker Eli Thomas had suffered a stroke prior to a team workout.  It was first reported that Thomas suffered the stroke during the workout, but it was later clarified that the stroke happened before the workout.

Having a stroke is a scary thing in general, but having one at 22 years old is something unimaginable.  According to the Hartford Courant, Thomas is in good spirits and in stable condition.  Thomas started four games for the young Huskies defense and plays both outside linebacker and defensive end.

A quote from Head Coach Randy Edsall hits the nail on the head when it comes to life in general;

“Every day, you just never know what can happen.  Things like this are just very unfortunate.  It’s one of those things where [you take it] one day at a time and do the very best you can every day because you just never know what can happen.”
