Face final non-league contest against the Fordham Rams

The Bulldogs will be looking for their second win of the season this Saturday, October 15^th, when they battle Fordham (3-2, 1-0 Patriot) at Jack Coffey Field in the Bronx, N.Y.

The kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Last week against Dartmouth (2-2, 0-2 Ivy League), the Elis offense exploded for 14 second quarter points on their way to a well-deserved 21-13 win over the Big Green at the Yale Bowl.

The game marked the 100^th meeting between the two Ivy League rivals.

Freshman tailback Alan Lamar, in his first collegiate start subbing for the injured Deshawn Salter, carried the ball 23 times for 180 yards to lead the Bulldog offense.

Lamar, who was named the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week, scored two touchdowns on runs of seven and 43 yards that propelled Yale (1-3, 1-1 Ivy League) to their first win of the season.

Yale senior Candler Rich added 57 yards on 14 carries.

The Yale defense stepped up big time in the win as they limited the Big Green to a season-low 13 points. Eli junior safety Hayden Carlson had a game-high 12 tackles. Senior’s Foye Oluokun and Dale Harris also figured prominently in the Bulldogs season-best defensive effort.

The Bulldogs defensive unit will face another stiff challenge against a Ram offense which has averaged over 45 points and 318 rushing yards per game.

Last week Fordham’s Chase Edmonds rushed for a school and Patriot League record 359 yards and scored four touchdowns (29, 19, 74 and 67 yards) as the Rams beat Lafayette 58-34.

Yale may be able to take advantage of a porous Fordham defense which has allowed 33 points per game.

Yale has won five of the seven games with Fordham. The Elis won the first meeting 21-14 in 1950 at the Yale Bowl. Yale is 1-1 in the Bronx.

In their last meeting, Fordham amassed 614 yards of offense in a 52-31 in 2013 at the Yale Bowl.

The game will air on the Yale Football Radio Network (ESPN Radio AM-1300 in New Haven) with Ron Vaccaro and Carm Cozza on the call.

The game can also be seen on the Ivy League Digital Network and Patriot League Network.

PREDICTION:

The Bulldogs defense will rise to the occasion and stop the Rams high-powered offense!

BULLDOG BITES

Lamar is the first Bulldog to be named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week since Jason Alessi on Nov. 3, 2014. The Mississippi native nearly eclipsed the Yale freshman rushing record of 185 yards, which was set by Robert Carr on Oct. 7, 2007 against Dartmouth.

Tre Moore continues his solid progress after assuming the quarterback reigns in the second quarter of the Cornell game.

Moore was 20 of 32 for 181 yards against Dartmouth. The sophomore is 53 of 96 for 477 yards on the season.

This year Yale will play two games under the lights. The Elis will host Penn on Oct. 21 (7 p.m. NBCSN) in the first game under the lights at the Yale Bowl.

On Oct. 28 Yale and Columbia will get after it in New York City.

Yale will travel to Cambridge to play Harvard in THE GAME on Nov. 19.

The 40^th reunion of Yale’s 1976 Ivy League Championship squad will be held on Nov. 12 when Yale hosts Princeton. Harvard (4-0, 2-0 Ivy League) took over sole possession of first-place in the Ivy League standings with a 29-13 win over previously undefeated Cornell (3-1, 1-1 Ivy League).
