Extended Reach: Make Golfing Less Troublesome With the Right Tools

Most golfers agree the one most challenging part of the game is getting golf balls to stay on course. The balls just won’t always stay where you want them. It’s the norm: balls fall in deep holes, water bodies and bushes more times than you’re comfortable with. And you’ll need a ball retriever to get it out.

The good thing is that golf ball retrievers come in many varieties to suit everyone’s needs. So, before purchasing a ball retriever for your next golf tournament, it’s important to know what to look out for. Let’s dive right in;

  1. Size

There is the question of convenience when it comes to golfing, and size can provide the answer. Most golf ball retrievers are made to fit in your golf bag alongside your clubs. Unlike clubs, however, retrievers are mostly extendable to reach a length of 15 feet, with the exclusive types going up to 24. Despite the length the tool can go, it should have no problem folding up to a smaller size and shape for convenience.

  1. Material

Most golf ball retrievers are made of stainless or anodized steel material. Go for materials that are sturdy enough for the task. Consider a rigid telescopic shaft which can extend to the entire length without bending, or worse, breaking. Regardless of how you use the golf ball retriever, the design material must stay rust free at all times. Also, what material is the handle and scoop made of? Rubber is often a preferred material for the handle, while the scoop can be made of rubber or metal, just to mention a few options.

  1. The scoop

The shape of the scoop and its ball picking mechanism matter. These features will make the difference between a retriever that can scoop a golf ball off the ground in a single sweep and one that you have to throw right back over and over to return with the ball.

A good scoop should be able to retrieve the ball with the same effectiveness regardless of where it is trapped, whether it is under water, in mud or some sand trap.

Retrievers vary in effectiveness based on the shape of the scoop. A circular scoop may easily retrieve a golf ball out of water and sand in more accessible spots. Where you cannot see the ball however, a larger scoop that can accommodate more than one ball may be more suitable for the search-to-retrieve work.

Better still, some scoops boast automatic locking mechanism that prevents the golf ball from dropping. This would be great under any circumstance.

  1. Handle

The handle factor is a no-brainer. It needs to be ergonomic enough to be easy on your palms. A rubber handle with a comfortable grip should be ideal for this purpose anytime.

What Now

Golfing should be relaxing rather than frustrating. Having the right tools, particularly the golf ball retriever can play a huge part in ensuring the game is as enjoyable as it can get. Use the tips to help you choose the right tool for a delightful golfing experience and spend less time trying to pick up balls.
