History of USA vs. Mexico in CONCACAF Gold Cup Finals

The US and Mexico face each other for the sixth time in the Gold Cup final.

Chicago IL: We are down to the two teams to see who will win the Gold Cup for 2019 and it is a very familiar foe in the USA taking on Mexico. Sunday will mark the sixth time that the USA will play Mexico in the Gold Cup Final with Mexico winning four of the five encounters.

Let’s take a look at the previous five times that the USA played Mexico in the Gold Cup Final.

The first time that the USA played Mexico in the Gold Cup Title was in 1993 and the game was played in Estadio Azteca in Mexico. Mexico won the game 4-0.

The next time the USA played Mexico in the Final was in 1998 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles where Mexico would take down USA 1-0.

The battle between the USA and Mexico would return to the Final of the Gold Cup in 2007 at Soldier Field in Chicago. The US would get its first win against Mexico as they would win the game 2-1.

2007 Gold Cup Final:

The USA and Mexico would go to battle in the Gold Cup Final for the fourth time in 2009 from Giants Stadium in East Rutherford NJ where Mexico would take down USA 5-0.

2009 Gold Cup Final:

The two teams would once again meet in the Final of the Gold Cup in 2011 from the Rose Bowl. Mexico would once again get the better of the USA by winning this game 4-2.

2011 Gold Cup Final:

On Sunday could the USA get their second ever win against Mexico in the Gold Cup Final? Or will Mexico get the better of the USA? The game on Sunday is in Chicago, the site of the first Gold Cup title win for the US against Mexico in 2007.

The 2019 Gold Cup Final is at 9 PM on FS1.
