Hofstra Women Looking for Upsets

The Hofstra Pride women’s basketball team finished the regular season as the ninth ranked team in the CAA. The Pride finished their season with an 83-72 setback loss to William and Mary. They begin the tournament Wednesday facing eight seed Elon for the right to challenge top seeded James Madison.

The Pride are led by Senior guard Boogie Brozoski who in the season finally set a program record for most free throws, going a perfect 15 for 15 from the charity stripe on her way to her third thirty point game of the season. She has been the Pride’s best player all year and a strong performance from her is key to winning this contest. Just as key is her supporting cast. Sica Cuzic has missed nine games this season but is the only other Pride player averaging double-digit points per game. A big game from her would go a long way towards a win.

For Elon, they lost six of their final seven games, with their only win being a 55-52 win over the Hofstra Pride. Emily Maupin is the only player to average double-digit points and the Phoenix defense has been a struggle this season as they have allowed 69.3 points per game, last in the CAA and has turned the ball over almost 18 times per game. The Pride will need to exploit these weaknesses to come away with a victory.

Hofstra will be an underdog in every game they play but anything can happen in March and the Pride have to have the mentality that they have a chance to win any game they play.
