This category is for College Coach of the Year. Here is a look at the nominees. Matt Rhule – Temple Football Ryan Anatol – Stony Brook Men’s Soccer Jay Wright – Villanova Men’s Basketball Geno Auriemma – UConn Women’s Basketball And the winner of the 2016 Double G Sports College Coach of the Year is Jay Wright, head coach of the Villanova men’s basketball team. The knock on Wright throughout his fourteen-year career in Philadelphia was that he could not win the big game. For all the conference success he earned, the NCAA Tournament was the Holy Grail that Wright and the Wildcats could not reach. Wright silenced his critics in the year 2016. Wright led Villanova to their first national championship in 31 years after defeating North Carolina in the National Championship game. They became the first team since the 1985 Villanova championship team to defeat four straight top 3 seeds en route to the national championship. Wright also led the Wildcats to their third consecutive Big East regular season title since the conference reboot. Wright was named Naismith College Coach of the Year and Big East Coach of the Year in 2016 in addition to being named 2016 Double G College Coach of the Year.
