Boxing Star Boxing flirts with idea of Stevenson vs. Smith Jr. at Coliseum; Fighters Agree by Kristine Haugsjaa January 6, 2017 Days after Long Island’s own WBC international light-heavyweight boxing champion, Joe Smith Jr. knocked out boxing legend Bernard Hopkins in his retirement bout at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., Smith took to social media hinting at the possibilities of his next bout; more specifically at Nassau Coliseum on April 29th, which has been under renovation and is expected to re-open in the coming months. httpss://www.instagram.com/p/BONGkR9hmnu/ Following the post, Star Boxing promoter Joe DeGuardia told RingTV.com he was exploring the idea of Smith Jr (23-1, 19KOs). facing WBC Light-Heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (28-1, 23KOs) at the Coliseum, instead of facing fellow Long Island boxer, undefeated Sean Monaghan of Long Beach (28-0 , 17KOs). “Absolutely Adonis Stevenson is still an option,” DeGuardia told RingTV.com. “The WBC, who I have a lot of respect in (president) Mauricio Sulaiman — and I expect that he would recognize that if the parties were to agree otherwise, that this fight transcends many different things. And to be able to have a world championship fight in New York for Adonis Stevenson would be something spectacular.” Stevenson’s manager, Al Haymon, has April 29th on hold at the Uniondale venue. Stevenson told Boxingscene.com Friday morning he would fight Smith in New York. “If he wants to fight I am ready. He is a good fighter. He beat Hopkins. If I beat him him though I don’t want anybody to say he’s a bum.” Smith Jr. responded via Twitter hours later, encouraging the match up. httpss://twitter.com/beastsmithjr/status/817446141583355904 Who would you rather see in Smith’s next bout?
