Soccer Torrent, New York City FC ‘Mutually Part Ways’ by Stefano Bentivogli November 8, 2019 The tenure of Domenec Torrent as coach of New York City FC has ended. The news was known for a long time, we had anticipated it for days, but it officially arrived on Friday. The club issued an official statement on it’s website, confirming that the club and Torrent agreed to “mutually part ways,” thus ending his 18-month tenure in the Bronx. “While I’ve greatly enjoyed coaching NYCFC and the incredible life experience of living in New York, in mutual discussion with the Club, I feel this is the right time for myself and my family to look for other opportunities as I develop my career as a Head Coach,” says Torrent. “I’d like to thank NYCFC for giving me this opportunity. I’ve learned a lot during my time at the Club after working with a fantastic Sporting Department and a great group of coaches.” In addition to Torrent, his coaching staff will also part ways with the club. Those include assistant coaches Albert Puig and Jordi Gris, head of performance Ismael Camenforte, and director of performance Francesec Cos. Torrent accomplished a lot in his short stint. NYCFC made the MLS Playoffs in both seasons, reaching the Eastern Conference semifinals on both occasions. This past season, Torrent coached NYCFC to the top seed in the Eastern Conference. In the long press release, Torrent took the time to thank the players, staff and fans. Torrent always felt their support through both the bad times and the good times. Torrent is looking for new opportunities, as he’s reportedly received interest from other MLS clubs, according to ESPN. Now, New York City FC will be looking for a new coach next season.
